手機業務員Paul Potts
每個人內心其實都會有那柔軟的一個縫隙，不管再堅強的人，只要被擊中了這個弱點，就會變得無比感性。
英國的選秀節目「Britains got talent」在2007年6月9號的節目中，就有一個外表猥瑣，對自己極端沒有自信的手機業務員Paul Potts打中了成千上萬人心中柔軟的那一點。
Paul Potts何許人也？36歲的他是在Carphone Warehouse手機專賣店的Bridgend分店工作的一個業務員。他長的什麼樣子？請看下面這張照片。
Paul Potts長的不似人君也就算了，他的人生也可說是相當倒楣了。因為這個長相，他小的時候在學校經常被流氓欺負，唯一能夠安慰他自己的是至少自己的聲音還不錯。但大家看了他的長相也知道，不管再怎麼有才華，要用他實在很考驗人的忍耐極限。所以他就在業務員和夢想成為職業歌手的選擇中打滾了很長的一段時間。
他從28歲時就夢想唱歌劇，因此穿的像是帕華洛帝一樣唱卡拉OK，也曾經上節目唱歌贏得了八千英鎊的獎金，並且把這些錢都花在去義大利學上專業的歌劇訓練課，甚至還有一堂課接受過帕華洛帝的指導，中間也還有必須實際上台和巡迴的實習課程。這樣總共花了他兩萬英鎊。
之後，一連串的倒楣事件卻開始發生。2003年時這個傢伙盲腸破裂住院開刀，開刀完了住院休養，出院之後回診時還被發現腎上腺長了一個十公分的腫瘤，於是又再開刀一次。就在最後都快要康復的時候，此人又從腳踏車上摔了下來，把鎖骨給弄斷了。醫生勸告他最好盡可能的休息，短時間內都不要再唱歌了。因此，不管他的夢想有多麼強烈，有好幾年的時間他都只能痛苦的躺在沙發上，根本沒辦法唱歌。
終於，時間到了2007年，而他也正在考慮如果以他的尊容闖不出名堂來，恐怕就必須放棄歌劇的夢想，專心的當一個手機業務員了。（因為他上那麼多課，已經欠了一屁股債…）
因此，這場在Cardiff的千禧劇場的「Britains Got Talent」的試演活動，就變成他的最後一次機會了。他必須在三個各司其職的嚴酷評審和兩千名觀眾面前展現他最好的一面。
當天他是怎麼樣的精心打扮來面對自己的最後一次機會呢？
他穿著被描述為「Tesco」大賣場買的西裝，根據他自己的說法：「我不認為評審對我有多少期待。我又矮又胖，穿著一件便宜的舊西裝。髮型師用的髮膠又太黏，讓我看起來好像有點禿頭。Simon說我的西裝好像太大了，Piers說我看起來糟透了…」
就這樣，這個看來猥瑣、肥胖、頂著一頭傻傻髮型的手機業務員Paul Potts站上了舞台，點頭示意工作人員按下音樂的播放鈕，「杜蘭朵公主」中的「公主徹夜未眠」前奏流洩而出，三位評審交換了眼神，露出沒有任何期待的表情……然後，一切就進入了歷史。
我們當然不知道Paul Potts以後會不會變成什麼偉大的人物。
但就像他自己所說的一樣：「我聽說有些觀眾在我唱完之後被感動的流淚，而Amanda也在事後表示她聽到我唱歌的時候渾身起了雞皮疙瘩。在我看來，這已經是很大的成就了。其他的事情不過都是錦上添花而已，對我來說，我把這個節目當成自己對於歌唱事業的最後一次挑戰。」
就像是在Youtube上面留言的無數個鄉民一樣，「我看了二十五遍，眼淚都快要流乾了！」、「我之前從來不聽歌劇，但如果這就是歌劇，我以後要每天都聽歌劇！」、「如果你們英國人不支持他，請他來美國出唱片吧！」、「Paul Potts，你他媽的真是個英雄！」。
我們感受到了這小人物最後一擊的力量，那種全身、全心、全靈投入的熱情衝擊，在那夢想與熱情交會的瞬間，這個貌不驚人的手機業務員讓我們的眼前綻放了照亮天際的璀璨火光。我們流淚、我們奔走告知網友，我們努力和更多人分享……
其實Paul Potts帶來的衝擊是我們每個人都感同身受的，社會以貌取人的現實、追求夢想的犧牲、平凡人以自己的實力翻身……這些或多或少我們都有遇過，但卻不一定有這麼樣乾坤一擲的逆轉機會，看著那些評審表情的轉變和全場觀眾起立鼓掌的熱情，彷彿讓我們也經歷了那同樣的一場歷險……
